North Tipperary Win Regional Competition

North Tipperary Civil Defence team participated in Region 4 for the Annual Regional Competitions on Sunday 16th October. The competitions were hosted by Cork City Civil Defence. Team were tested in Footdrill, Casualty/Rescue, AFS/Flood Defences, Communications and a Team Challenge. Following a challenging day of sites North Tipperary emerged as winners. Other Counties taking part were North Cork, West Cork, South Cork and Kerry. This is the second year a team from North Tipperary has won this event, and great credit is due to all the Volunteers & instructors for their dedication in preparing not just for this event but for their commitment on a weekly basis. Local Civil Defence Officer Mr Anthony Graham said he was delight with the result and it just reward for the Volunteers, "These competition are designed to test a gauge the level of training and standards that our volunteers have achieved and its great to be winning such an events as the standard is getting higher each year".

North Tipperary Host Regional Competitions in Nenagh on 9th October

On Sunday the 9th of October North Tipperary Civil Defence Hosted Region 5 for the Annual Regional Civil Defence Competitions. The event was based in the Civic Offices with competitive sites situated on the grounds of the Civic Offices, the Co Co Machinery yard and Nenagh Fire Station. Teams from Clare, Limerick City, Limerick County, Cork City and Offaly were tested in the following Footdrill, Casualty/Rescue, AFS/Flood Defences, Communications and a Team Challenge. While the weather was poor the commitment of volunteers was commendable and again the standard of First Aid and other skills was very good. The event ran smoothly and this is due to the excellent work of North Tipperary Civil Defence Volunteers for the many hours and day of preparations they put into staging the event. During the day the County Manager Mr Joe MacGrath visited the event and was most impressed by the organisation of the event and the commitment of volunteers taking part. The Director General for Civil Defence Mr Bill Smith also attended as did staff from the Civil Defence College in Roscrea. At the presentation meal in the Abbey Court Hotel the Mayor Mr Michéal Lowry praised the organisation for the work carried out across the country during snow and ice last year and commended the voluntary nature of the members.
