Adopt A Bank

North Tipperary County Council has established a network of 39 bring centres across the county. These bring centres accept a range of materials from glass bottles & jars, aluminium drinks cans, steel food cans and textiles. The County Council is now offering community groups the opportunity to ‘Adopt a Bank’. This pilot scheme is aimed at encouraging community groups to manage/maintain the bring centres to a high standard on behalf of the Council and advise the Local Authority if servicing is not adequate.

Requirements of the Adopt - a - Bank Scheme

1. The group must be actively engaged in a community activity in the area in which they wish to adopt a bank.

2. Groups will be restricted to adopting one bring centre only for the first year.

3. Applications to adopt banks will be considered on a “first come first served” basis.

4. Groups will agree to undertake the maintenance of the banks for a minimum period of 1 year.

5. At the end of this period agreement between the council and the group will be reviewed.

6. Community Groups will designate a specified contact person in the group for dealing with general correspondence with the Council, etc.

7. Groups will agree to undertake the following duties:
• Any recyclables left at the bring centre will be placed in the appropriate bank.

• If illegal dumping occurs at the bring centre, the group must advise the Council immediately so an investigation into the dumping can be undertaken.

• Any plastic bags or boxes left at the bring centres will be placed in appropriate litterbins.

• Groups are required to advise the Council or appropriate Company when Banks are approaching capacity, i.e. if almost full.

• The groups will give advice & assistance to members of the public requiring it in relation to recycling.

Each group participating in the pilot “Adopt- a- Bank” scheme will be paid €400.00. At the end of the year, the scheme will be reviewed, including the performance of the group.
