North Tipperary County Council organises the Farm Awards Scheme in association with sponsors Teagasc, Arrabawn Co-Op Nenagh and Centenary Co-Op Thurles. The scheme is open to any North Tipperary farmer who is farming in an environmentally friendly manner.
The scheme focuses on the code of good agricultural practice. The objective of these awards is to recognise and reward farmers for using good nutrient management practices while helping to protect our water quality. By doing this, farmers help protect the quality of our water for present and future generations.
Steps to ensure good agricultural practice include: separating clean and dirty water, providing adequate storage, applying fertiliser in good weather conditions and at the right time of year and leaving buffer strips when spreading near water courses and wells.
Each year, an overall winner is selected for the county as well as winners in the dairying, tillage and drystock categories in each of the districts.
Application forms and particulars will be posted on this page when available. For further information, phone the Environment Section on (067) 44786.
