Water Safety in North Tipperary is provided by the North Tipperary
Area Committee of the Irish Water Safety working in partnership with North
Tipperary County Council through the council’s designated Water Safety Officer. The focus of the Committee is on Public Awareness
and voluntary Training in Water Safety skills.
North Tipperary County Council places and monitors appropriate Water Safety
Signs at recognized bathing places on the lakeshore and Clare Glens. The County
Council in conjunction with The Irish Water Safety Association organises Risk
Assessments on Lough Derg and Clare Glens at three (3) year intervals and implements
the recommendations made by the water safety examiners who carry out the risk
assessments.
Voluntary Training in Water Safety is carried out at the annul Water Safety Summer Programmes in the following venues:
Autumn/Winter and Spring /Summer classes are also organized in Nenagh Pool and Leisure Centre and Garda Training College, Templemore. It is important to note that :
The voluntary Instructors teach swimming and lifesaving courses to children and adults. Recipients build skills in swimming, water confidence, safety, survival, rescue skills and resuscitation. Participants can progress to qualify as Pool and Beach Lifeguards, qualifications that are internationally recognised. 27 certificate are available to children and adults nationwide which are all internationally recognised.
