The Family History Research Centre is located in The Governor's House, the former residence of the County Gaol governor from 1842 to 1886.

Important Places in North Tipperary, Ireland: There are sites of historic, archaeological, architectural and environmental interest located in or near the main towns, as well as at Holycross, Lorrha, Ashley Park and Rearcross. The River Shannon and its largest lake, Lough Derg, form the scenic western boundary of Tipperary North. Good evidence of the 13 th century Norman conquest can be seen throughout Tipperary North, including numerous mottes, several Hall houses and religious foundations, and the fine castle remains in Nenagh and Roscrea.

Emigration from County Tipperary, Ireland: Emigration from Tipperary North was constant before the Great Famine of 1845–50, albeit in small numbers as against the immediate post-Famine period. A notable feature was the emigration on the 1830s of a number of Protestants from the Borrisokane area to Canada. Substantial numbers were transported to Australia.
