Training workshops in the care, conservation and survey of Ireland's historic graveyards is being organised by the North Tipperary LEADER Partnership in association with North Tipperary County Council. The training workshops are free of charge. Training will take place in Upperchurch on Saturday 19th May, 2012. Training workshops will e in two parts, the morning (10am to 1pm) in the graveyard and the afternoon (2pm to 4pm) in the Community Hall, learning about technological aspects and data publishing. A second training session will be held in Latteragh on Saturday 26th May, 2012. Again training will commence at 10am until 1pm approximately and then from 2pm to 4pm in the Abbey Court Hotel.

The event cover many aspects of our Natural Heritage from birds and bats to the hidden habitats in the urban setting. All events are free. All are welcome.

National Tree
Week is an annual, week-long festival celebrating all positive aspects of
trees in our lives and environment and will take place from 4-10 March 2012.
This year’s theme is ‘Trees – Our Past, Our Present and Our Future’.
Tree Week is organised by the Tree Council of Ireland and sponsored by the
Forest Service and Coillte who work in partnership with the Tree Council to
facilitate the supply and distribution of over 15,000 trees which are
delivered to community groups throughout Ireland.
Whether it is
walking through trees, talking about trees, planting trees or making things
with trees, Tipperary people are really spoiled for choice this Tree Week.
Tipperary has far exceeded any county, outside of Dublin, in terms of their
activities for National Tree Week 2012. Events
include a woodturning exhibition,
Bog
wood
sculptor and
photo exhibition both in Thurles, planting ceremonies in Portroe, Holycross
and in the Eco Village, walks throughout the county and talks on trees, and
a tree identification, heritage and folklore event.

To celebrate World Wetlands Day (2nd February), Cabragh Wetlands Trust will hold a walk and talk, in conjunction with The Irish Wildlife Trust (Tipperary Branch) on Sunday, 5th February, at 2.30pm. The event will explore the importance of wetlands and their species. Speakers will include Vinny O'Meara, Tom Gallaher, Anne Lloyd, Anne Marie Fleming and Sean O'Farrell. All are welcome. Ireland’s Heritage sites are a key pillar in Ireland’s Tourism offering. In order to maintain and improve on this offering a new Heritage Fund has been created. Some €1 million of Exchequer funding within the Tourism Capital Investment Programme (TCIP), has been designated for the Heritage Fund.
The Heritage Fund will be implemented by Fáilte Ireland. The guidelines set
out in some detail the eligibility criteria, grant levels, application and
assessment process and monitoring arrangements. All applications must be
submitted and processed in accordance with these guidelines.

Seminar is being held in the Nenagh Arts Centre (formerly Town Hall),
This seminar will provide practical, appropriate and
easy to understand advice and guidance on how to care for historic
graveyards, whilst ensuring that no damage occurs to their historic fabric
and character. Attendance will equip graveyard committees, community groups,
historical societies etc and interested individuals with knowledge of the
legislative requirements for working in historic graveyards and with best
practice guidance on how to plan and proceed with caring for graveyards and
recording memorials in graveyards.
This seminar will be of value
to the owners of historic graveyards, cemetery committee members, community
groups, tidy towns associations, historical/heritage society members,
genealogical enthusiasts, landowners, archaeologists, architects, engineers,
local authority staff, elected members and interested individuals.

Biodiversity event "Oh Mama I Love Nature, Let's go Outside". to include wildlife fun/games, guided walks and talks to be held on Sunday, 29th May, 2009 at 3pm in Toomevara.
Programme of events:
1) Wildlife fun and games for kids with Katy Egan and Jane Kelleher.
2) Guided walk along hedgerows with Tom Gallagher
3) Study of the wildflowers and grasses in the meadows with a choice of botanists
4) Identification of moths trapped on the farm the previous night by an expert in that field
Fun for children of all ages. The event is free
People planning to attend are encouraged to be outside the Catholic Church in Toomevara at 2.45pm on Sunday 29th, to be guided to the farm. The wildlife fun/games and guided walks start at 3pm and run until around 6pm. Tea/coffee and cake etc is provided
The event, which will be hosted by Sean O’Farrell at his farm in Toomevara, is a joint initiative between North Tipperary An Taisce and the newly formed Tipperary branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust
